FEATS-G
Quantifying the Potential of Quantum Space Gravimetry
Quantifying the Potential of Quantum Space Gravimetry
2026-2029
Funded by the European Union
Call: HORIZON-CL4-2025-02-SPACE-81 – EU-Japan cooperation on the exploitation of Quantum Space Gravimetry data
FEATS-G will be kicked off in 2026 and will be completed in 2029.
The project is coordinated by GFZ-Potsdam, with 12 partners from 7 EU Member States and UK, and 7 associated partners from Japan. The objectives are:
- interpret geophysical signals (large-scale mass transport signals) based on the latest monthly-mean GRACE/-FO gravity fields;
- explore and develop alternative signal separation techniques, with particular focus on the separation of signals related to earthquakes from either terrestrial water storage or ocean bottom pressure;
- quantify the added value of QSG over GRACE-FO and NGGM/MAGIC.
The task of the SATGEO team is to estimate regional gravity field solutions in Southeast Asia from simulated QSG data and compare them with gravity field retrieval from currently operating (GRACE-FO) and already funded future gravity missions (NGGM/MAGIC). To this aim, the SATGEO team will exploit its software, implementing a strategy based on the space-wise approach.
